Celebrate Marine Wildlife at the Maui Whale Festival
By Kathy Englert
The Pacific Whale Foundation hosts the Maui Whale Festival in honor of our cetacean guests each year. The festival began this year on November 26th with a sustainable seafood cruise. PWF has festival events scheduled through February, March, and April; if you will be vacationing on Maui in the next few months, you can celebrate the migration of the Humpback Whales with more than just a Whale Watch Cruise.
The Great Maui Whale Count: Help researchers count Maui's whale population. Volunteers are provided training and tools to spot whales from the shores of Maui Saturday morning, February 26th from 8am to 12pm. Call 808-249-8811 or 1-800-942-5311 to make a reservation.
Ultimate Whale Watch: Join a small group for a tour of the Pacific Whale Foundation's research center and a two hour whale watch cruise. The tour starts at 7am in Maalaea every Tuesday. Space is limited – call 808-249-8811 or 1-800-942-5311 to make a reservation.
Making Waves Lecture Series: Learn about Maui's whales through a free talk and slide show by a local expert. At Pacific Whale Foundation’s Discovery Center in Ma’alaea. 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Free and open to all. Thursday, March 17, 2011.
Full Moon Whale Song Cruise: This cruise will be the highlight of your Maui vacation. Moonlight, drinks, pupus (appetizers), an explanation of Maui's night sky by professional astronomer Harriet Witt, and the lovely yet eerie music of the Humpback Whales' songs brought to the surface by underwater hydrophones. The most beautiful place on earth, the most romantic night of the month, and the most memorable of locations combine for a truly magical evening! Contact Pacific Whale Foundation for reservations, call 808-249-8811 or 1-800-942-5311.
