On the island of Maui, there are endless reasons to count your blessings. Every direction you look, and everywhere you go is pure joy and happiness, and you can see it in the faces you pass that being here is unlike being anywhere else in the world. Maybe that’s why Hawaii has recently been named the happiest place to live in the United States.

According to a recent news article in Gallop.com, Hawaii residents were the happiest in America last year. The Aloha State has grabbed the number one spot for the seventh time since Gallup started tracking wellbeing in America over ten years ago.

The information is gathered through 115,000 surveys that were sent to adults in each state in the U.S. over the year. The Well-Being Index is calculated on a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 represents the lowest possible wellbeing, and 100 represents the highest. The Well-Being Index score for the nation and each state consists of metrics that assess the following five factors:

  1. Career – how much a person likes what they do each day and are motivated to achieve their goals.
  2. Social – Having supportive relationships and love in their life.
  3. Financial – Management of their economic life to reduce stress and increase security.
  4. Community – Liking where they live, feeling safe and having pride in their neighborhoods.
  5. Physical – Having good health and enough energy to complete tasks.

Hawaii had an overall score of 64.6. As for the other states, Wyoming ranked number 2 and Alaska took third place. Hawaii also made the top in three out of the five categories for the career, social and financial sectors.
